PGWP has a role in gaining Canadian work experience
A major benefit of the PGWP is that is enables international students to gain professional work experience in Canada. This work experience is important when PGWP holders go on to apply for Canadian immigration. Many of Canada’s over 100 different immigration pathways reward candidates who have studied and/or worked in Canada. Usually, a PGWP holder will need one year of professional work experience in a National Occupational Classification (NOC) code of 0, A or B to then be eligible to apply for a Canadian permanent residence program.
Germany unveils immigration plan to tackle labor shortages, fill 60,000 jobs a year
Germany unveiled draft reforms on immigration, skills training and promoting immigration from countries outside the European Union, a bid by Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government to plug labour shortages in Europe's largest economy. "Securing our skilled labour base is one of Germany's biggest economic tasks for the coming decades," Labour Minister Hubertus Heil said. The number of job vacancies in 2022 was at a record high of close to 2 million, according to the ministry. "With this, we are laying the foundation for a new start in migration policy," Finance Minister Christian Lindner tweeted after the cabinet approved the reforms. "Anyone who can contribute to the country's economic success as a skilled worker is welcome." The draft law says the reform could increase the number of workers from countries outside the EU by 60,000 people a year, according to a report by Reuters. "If people bring professional experience or personal potential with them, we will make it possible for them to gain a foothold in our labour market," Germany's Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said. It offers foreign workers three pathways to enter the country 1. The first one requires a professional or university degree recognised in Germany, and an employment contract. 2. The second requires a minimum of two years of experience working in a relevant sector, and a degree or vocational training. 3. The third is a new "opportunity card" for individuals who do not have a job offer but have the potential to find work. The opportunity card follows a points-based system that takes into account qualifications, language skills, professional experience, connection to Germany and age. The cabinet also approved an education law that entitles young people to paid off-the- job training. Germany's Federal Labour Agency will pay up to 67% of the net salary for the duration of the training.

Canada has broken another immigration record- admitting over 550,000 new international students in 2022. Data released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) shows that the north American country welcomed a record 551,405 international students from 184 countries in 2022. Indian students remained the highest benefactors - with over 226,450 visas approved. China came in second, with 52,165 student visas approved, while The Philippines (23,380 visas) rounded off the top three. In 2021, 444,260 new study permits took effect, an increase from 400,600 in 2019. In 2019, there were 637,860 international students in Canada. According to the latest figures, 107,145 more study permits took effect in 2022 versus 2021.

US Increases Visa Application Fees for Students By 15%
The US Department of State has announced increases in visa application processing fees for a number of non-immigrant visa categories, including students. The increases will affect visitor visas issued for business or tourism purposes and other categories, such as student and exchange visitor visas, the price of which will increase by 15 percent, from $160 to $185. In a media release issued on March 28, the Department said that these increases were announced in the Federal Register at the end of March and will take effect on May 30, 2023. "The Department of State is committed to facilitating legitimate travel to the United States for both immigrant and nonimmigrant travelers," the press release reads. Furthermore, the fee for temporary workers will increase by nearly eight percent, from $190 to $205,while those for a treaty trader, treaty investor, and treaty applicants in a specialty occupation will no longer pay $205, but a total of $315. The change will not apply to other consular fees, including a waiver of the two-year residency fee that certain exchange visitors are required to pay.
